It occurred to me that I should introduce myself. Since the day in 1923 when I was coming home from Abby’s birthday party, until today. I am the same guy. Once I saw that airship, I knew I had to somehow, find a way to be involved. Going to Friedrichshafen, where the Zeppelins were being constructed, seemed the only choice. After many hot discussions with my father regarding my foolish dreams, I left. I was eventually hired by Maybach, the company supplying diesel engines. Apprenticing for years, I became a mechanic. There are five engines on each ship, Maybach requires a mechanic on duty at all times with each engine. Four engines in use and one backup. Eight hour shifts, three mechanics per engine fifteen mechanics on each flight.
Three days home, we arrive. Once docked and unloading, I am able to grab my bike and head down the muddy trail for a meal with the family.
Asked about Brooke today, she is fine. Saw Abby too. Once again Mel and Abel had everything under control. Fed us all chicken and dumplings. A perfect meal on a cold wet afternoon.
